Melbourne-based Socceroos Aaron Mooy, Alex Wilkinson and Ivan Franjic helped announced Caltex as the newest naming sponsor of the Socceroos today at the City Football Academy.
Wing back Franjic in particular believed the signing of a household brand will only benefit the Socceroos on their road to Russia.
“We haven’t had a big sponsor in a while, so it’s definitely exciting,” Franjic said.
“Caltex (is a brand) everybody knows in Australia, so it’s a big thing.”
“We’re trying to do our best on and off the field so it’s good to have a brand like Caltex who’s strive to do the same thing,” Wilkinson said.
“So as a business we’re glad to have them on board.”
All three players are currently contracted to Melbourne City, with the Socceroos upcoming qualifier against Jordan looming on the horizon.
In June, all three players could be seeking selection as Greece is hosted at Etihad Stadium, something that Franjic made no secret of desiring.
“Definitely, every time you play in front of family and friends it’s something special,” he said.
“It’s a long way to go, I’ve just got to keep playing well for my club week in, week out, and hopefully get chosen for those friendlies.”comments
