Clisby clocks on at Melbourne City

Young defender Jack Clisby has been snapped up by Melbourne City after announcing his release from Perth Glory on Friday.

Clisby, who signed on with City until the end of the 2015/16 A-League season, is the Melbourne outfit's first piece of business in the transfer window.

The versatile defender announced he was looking for new opportunities after making 28 appearances for Perth since joining the club in 2013.

City head coach John van’t Schip said Clisby would add depth to his squad for the second half of the A-League season.

The 22-year-old can play either as a left-back or central defender.

“As a young talented defender, Jack has been on our radar for some time and we are happy to welcome him to Melbourne and expect him to be an important contributor to the team,” van’t Schip said.

“Jack comes to us at a time where we require depth as we embark on a busy fixture schedule in February and for the remainder of the season.”

City is currently sitting in sixth spot on the league ladder and on track for finals football.

The side is back in action on Sunday February 1 when they host cellar-dwellers Western Sydney Wanderers at AAMI Park.
