Davidson close to EPL move

Heracles chairman Jan Smit has revealed Socceroos left-back Jason Davidson’s proposed move to West Bromwich Albion is close to being agreed.

Davidson, 23, has been the subject of widespread speculation after impressing at the 2014 World Cup where he played in all three of Australia’s games.

However, any potential move was complicated when Davidson’s Dutch club Heracles automatically triggered a one-year extension on his contract, meaning any suitors had to pay a transfer fee.

The left-back was previously linked with Fulham, but West Brom are now the frontrunners for his signature and have reportedly finally tabled an offer after opening talks last week.

Smit told Almelo newspaper TC Tubantia that West Brom and Heracles are close to finalising an agreement on Davidson.

The Australian must still complete a medical at The Hawthorns and put pen to paper on the deal.

It is understood, Heracles and West Brom have agreed to a small transfer fee.
