The Joeys have qualified for the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile after a 2-1 win over Malaysia at the AFC U16 Championships on Sunday.
Australia were forced to do it the hard way after coming from 1-0 down to win 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Malaysia took the lead on the half-hour mark but the Joeys equalised just four minutes later through Cameron Joice.
The youngster scored his fourth goal of the competition when he slotted home from a pin-point cross.
Malaysia almost went back ahead right before half-time but a long-range strike came off the top of the crossbar.
Australia dominated for most of the second-half and were rewarded 15 minutes from time.
Substitute Peter Kekeris beat his man before squaring the ball to Daniel Maskin who converted what proved to be the winning goal.
The win means the Joeys advance to the semi-finals of the competition and thus qualify for the U17 World Cup in Chile next year.
Australia will play either Iran or North Korea in the semi-finals on Wednesday.comments
