Nick Ward trials with Sydney FC

Midfielder Nick Ward is trialling with Sydney FC after being released by the Newcastle Jets.

Ward joined the Jets in December last season as an injury replacement for defender Scott Neville, and made four appearances for the club in their 2013-2014 campaign.

On Wednesday night the 29-year-old was a 60th minute subsitute for Nick Carle in the Sky Blues 3-2 preseason win over Bonnyrigg White Eagles at Leichhardt Oval.

A Jets spokesperson told FourFourTwo that Ward had been released.

“The club has advised him that his contract will not be renewed for the coming season and that he is free to pursue other opportunities,” the spokesperson said.

“We thank Nick for his efforts and wish him all the best.”

Sydney FC confirmed Ward is only trialling with the club at this stage.

Ward made his NSL debut with Perth Glory in 2003 and played in the A-League with the Glory, Melbourne Victory, Wellington Phoenix and the Jets.

The former Young Socceroo,  Olyroo and A-League Young Player of the Year (2005-2006) has made more than 100 appearances in the domestic competition and also played in England and Greece.
