Reported Perth Glory targets Neil Kilkenny and James Wesolowski are set for important talks with their current English League One clubs about extending their stays.
The Australians, both in their mid-to-late 20s, are out of contract at Preston North End and Oldham Athletic respectively.
Glory coach Kenny Lowe is currently in the United Kingdom scouting for talent to boost the club’s stocks after finishing eighth in 2013-14.
Lowe is eager to put his stamp on the squad after being handed the coaching role permanently last month and the pair are on his wish list.
Glory have already added Youssouf Hersi and Dino Djulbic for the 2014-15 season, but lost Shane Smeltz (Sydney FC), Steven McGarry (released), Travis Dodd (released), Adrian Zahra (released), Ryan Edwards (loan expiry), Darvydas Sernas (loan expiry) and Jacob Burns (retired).
Oldham boss Lee Johnson told the Manchester United News this week that he expects Sydney-born Wesolowski to leave the club, despite winning their Player of the Season award and subsequently being offered a new deal.
“I'll never say a bad word about Weso, but I am treating it as though he is not coming back," Johnson said.
Kilkenny’s season with Preston has just concluded following their playoffs exit, but the 28-year-old wasn’t one of six players let go by the club this week.
According to the Lancashire Evening Post, talks will start soon between Kilkenny’s agent and North End about extending his stay at Deepdale.
The Brisbane-raised former Arsenal junior, who also spent time at Birmingham City and Leeds United, is understood to be keen to remain at Preston, whom he joined permanently in January after being on loan from Bristol City.
