Australian teenager Daniel De Silva is hoping for the “perfect” debut against Real Madrid after being named in Roma's squad for the upcoming International Champions Cup (ICC) in Melbourne.
The only Aussie in the ICC, De Silva could find himself in the thick of the action when the two teams clash at the MCG on Saturday night.
The former Perth Glory playmaker says he’s walking a fine line between excitement and nerves as the big day approaches.
“To come on against Man City or Real Madrid in my first game for Roma, that would be ridiculous,” De Silva told news.com.au ahead of the Roma squad arriving in Melbourne on Wednesday.
“If I get a run, it’s a debut for Roma in Australia. It would be a dream come true, really. That would be perfect. But even if I don’t, I’m really looking forward to the experience.
“Because of how high-profile the players are, like (Francesco)Totti, I think even if I just met them at the shops it would still be pretty daunting and pretty amazing.
“I’m probably equally excited and nervous.’’
The ICC also features EPL heavyweights Manchester City – but it's the chance to finally meet his new teammate, Totti, that has the 18-year-old De Silva over the moon.
“I’ve been thinking about it for a long time,’’ he said.
“Once it happens it will be a great moment for me and obviously it will be great to be able to speak to him.”
