Sydney FC v Central Coast: Player Ratings

Topics

Sydney FC prevailed 2-0 over Central Coast Mariners at Allianz Stadium on Sunday and FourFourTwo's Griffin McMaster cast his eye over the performances of all players on the pitch.

Sydney FC

VEDRAN JANJETOVIC – 8

Had a quiet match but the highlight was the penalty save and then another block which helped keep the clean sheet in place.

ALI ABBAS – 7

Sound. Involved in a clean sheet effort.

SASA OGNENOVSKI – 8

Was in good control at the back. Got on the scoresheet in a set piece

NIKOLA PETKOVIC – 7.5

Was only troubled once or twice otherwise solid. Brought down Bosnar for the penalty late.

SEBASTIAN RYALL – 8

Was superb down the right. Getting some quality delivery also running at players.

MILOS DIMITRIJEVIC – 8.5

Great performance. Dribbling at pace is his biggest asset. Looks like a big player in the A-League for this season.

TERRY ANTONIS – 8

Proves his ultimate class with a great goal you see from players in higher leagues overseas.

BERNIE IBINI-ISEI – 5

A bit disappointing.

ALEX BROSQUE – 7.5

A roaming number 10 suits him. Can come in deep to receive the ball and links well with other attackers around him. Ever present.

COREY GAMEIRO – 7

Lively again playing high up on the left hand side, aims to cut back in, good sharpness.

MARC JANKO – 7

Tried to get in the thick of it and was playing his part. Came off on 80 minutes.

Substitutes:

CHRIS NAUMOFF – n/a

Came on and surprisingly being 2-0 was getting into the last third with some attack. Not bad.

ALEX GERBACH – n/a

On in the 86th minute.

NICK CARLE – n/a

On late, will be better for the match fitness.

Central Coast Mariners

MATTHEW NASH – 7

Makes a rare start. First goal was a great strike from Antonis. Gave a poor pass to Bosnar which led to a scrap and free kick and Sydney’s second goal, although couldn’t do much with the set piece. Put a great through ball in for Duke midway through the second half and a top save to deny Dmitrijevic. Got better as the game went on.

JOSHUA ROSE – 5.5

Sydney players running a lot down the wings and that gave Rose a difficult day.

JACOB POSCOLIERO – 6

Good experience that’s keeping out Anderson at the moment. Although under the pump a lot.

EDDY BOSNAR – 6

Involved in some miss match which led to the free kick which led to the second goal. Otherwise a real leading presence that’s needed for the Mariners but wasn’t his day. Did win a penalty for his side.

MATTHEW SIM – 5

Quiet, got subbed.

GLEN TRIFIRO – 5

Gets a start, couldn’t have the involvement he would have liked. Got some touches on the ball but nothing threatening.

ANTHONY CACERES – 6.5

Looked sharp in the midfield and looked to offer something to the front men.

JOHN HUTCHINSON – 6

His physicality is his strong point but was put to the test. First half couldn’t contain what was relentless Sydney pressure, second half better performance.

MALICK MANE – 5

A very quiet match and hardly got involved. Got dragged.

MITCHELL DUKE – 5

Should have scored in 38th minute. Had another great chance on 62 minutes. Positive got into positions but couldn’t capitalize. Had a penalty saved as well. Not his day.

Substitutes:

NICK MONTGOMERY – n/a

On late.

NICK FITZGERALD – n/a

On with half an hour to go. The damage was done.

KIM SEUNG-YONG – n/a

Came on in last 15 minutes. Again same thing not a lot of time to change things.
