Troisi sent off for dissent

In-form Socceroo James Troisi was sent off overnight after back-chatting the referee in Zulte-Waregem’s 2-1 extra-time Belgian Cup win over Lierse.

Troisi received two yellow cards in the one incident in the 117th minute of the triumph which sent his side through to the quarter-finals.

The Australian initially voiced his dissent over a foul, prompting referee Luc Wouters to demand his presence to hand out a booking and a talking-to.

However, Troisi continued to walk away, refusing to abide by the referee’s instructions before back-chatting when finally shown the yellow card.

Immediately, Wouters presented Troisi with another booking, sending him off for the final few minutes of the encounter.

Earlier, Troisi provided the assist for Chuks Aneke’s fourth-minute goal, with a diagonal ball from a free-kick.

Troisi will now miss the weekend’s clash with fellow Australian Mat Ryan’s Club Brugge.

Meanwhile, Ryan continued his good form overnight with a clean sheet in Club Brugge’s 3-0 away win over Kortrijk.
