Acton departs Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar back-up goalkeeper Matthew Acton has departed the club following the Roar's premiership and championship winning season in 2013-14.

Acton, 21, has been at the club since he was just 15 years of age and spent the 2012-13 and 2013-14 A-League seasons as Michael Theo's back-up following Andrew Redmayne's departure to Melbourne Heart.

The Queenslander made his senior Roar debut this season, filling in for Theo in two games against Perth Glory and Adelaide United.

Roar won both of those games, with Acton keeping a clean sheet on debut against the Glory in-front of a home crowd at Suncorp Stadium.

But with Theo cemented as Roar no.1, Acton decided it was in his best interests to pursue first team football elsewhere.

“Matt has had a taste for first team football and wishes to pursue other options,” Brisbane Roar Football Director Ken Stead said.

“He goes with our full blessing. Matt has been a loyal servant to this club ever since he joined as a teenager in our youth system and we wish him every success in his career.”
