Bresciano: There's something not right with Socceroos

Veteran midfielder Mark Bresciano admits something isn't right in the Socceroos game and big improvement is needed for the Asian Cup after their shock loss to Qatar on Wednesday (AEDT).

The Socceroos were undone by a second half goal to Khalfan Ibrahim to slump to their first-ever loss to the Gulf nation.

It comes just four days after a disappointing 0-0 draw with UAE and Bresciano concedes the results things need to change if they are to be successful on home soil in January’s Asian Cup.

“We need a big improvement," Bresciano told Fox Sports. "We haven’t got long to go (before the Asian Cup).

“There’s something not right. We have to fix it because it’s (Asian Cup) getting close.

“If we’re going to have any chance of winning it, games like tonight we shouldn’t be losing.”

The Socceroos now have just one more friendly, against Japan in November, to iron out their kinks before starting their Asian Cup campaign against Kuwait on January 9.

Bresciano believes these two latest results show not only the improvement in football in the Middle East, but also how far the Socceroos have to go to reach their best.

“The football in the gulf region has improved dramatically in the last few years,” he said.

“We’re going through this transition with the younger boys coming in and maybe the standard has dropped a bit.

“We know that, we’re working on that and we have to get to the best we can for January.”

I can tell you exactly what is wrong - Jedinak!
Get Cahill as captain, Jedinak quietly retired back to club football please - for the sake of the Nations reputation. how oh how he ever got into the Australian squad is one of the great mysteries of the modern Australian game - right up there with Wilkinson (WILKINSON for goodness sake!!!!) being a 1st choice centre back.

Me thinks Mr Lowy might be casting the occasional quick glance back at a certain national coaching contract in the dark of night right about now.....

Well, it has to be said, this is the worst squad to have represented Australia for donkeys' years. And for that, we can thank Ange. Playing so many players not worthy of an international strip...hello NT-S, Brillante, Wilko, Sainsbury, Davidson (who hasn't even been in the WBA squad for yonks), Jedi (more unforced error passes than any other player over last two games), and for goodness sake...Behich and Troisi???

You just had to look at them going forward - no-one running towards the ball, and Cahill sitting like a lone duck, awaiting a magical spot on cross...the vast majority of which were pricelessly dreadful.

And we shall now probably drop below Qatar in the

Anyway is it possible we can arrange another Foz / Ange set to, about how Ange's going, a la that one a few years back ?

In the end, so glad I taped it, and only got up at 6 to watch it, instead of 3.

Further expert analysis came from student-turned-Twitter pundit Simon Larson, who used his years of training in Albanian-Serbian relations to say: "Both countries should be thrown out of UEFA. That would teach them a lesson and ensure something like this never happened again.
