Europa League: Torino boss hails 'extraordinary' Ryan
Torino laid siege to the Belgian outfits’ goal but failed to find a way past Ryan who pulled off some world-class saves to keep the game scoreless
The Aussie, who only extended his contract with Brugge on Thursday after being linked with a series of big name clubs, was praised by Torino coach Giampiero Ventura post-match.
Ventura told Sport Mediaset his side put in a strong shift “against a very strong team and a goalkeeper who performed at least three or four truly extraordinary saves.
“I have to compliment him (Ryan) – some of those saves were incredible. However the result did not reflect the game.
“In moments like this nothing goes your way, so you just need the patience to keep working and hope the tide turns.”
Ryan had to be on his game for the full 90, repelling some early efforts on goal and keeping the home side at bay in the dying stages of the match, including a spectacular save to deny Marcelo Larrondo’s header, leaving Club Brugge on top of Group B.
The Blue-Blacks are sitting on nine points, one point ahead of Torino, and with one group game left to play against third-place HJK Helsinki (6 points).
