Premiership winning goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic has weighed into the debate over whether all fixtures in the final round should be played simultaneously.
Speaking on the Daily Football Show, the Adelaide United shot-stopper said he would have preferred to celebrate the premiership on the night with the travelling fans at AAMI Park.
“All players would probably think the same thing,” Galekovic said.
“How good would it be if we received that trophy in Melbourne in front of our away supporters? I think they were sensational that night.”
The A-League veteran also said from the fans’ point of view, it would make for a greater spectacle.
“I think from the entertaining factor as well, people would be glued to the seats as much as if they had live score updates in that round,” he said.
“It’ll make the game so much more entertaining. Especially with the year we had this year with four or five potential teams to be premiers.”
The Adelaide United team celebrated after the decisive fixture on Saturday night instead, as Melbourne Victory held Brisbane Roar to a 0-0 draw, courtesy of goalkeeping heroics from Lawrence Thomas.
“We watched the game. It was pretty tense and I think we counted down every minute in the end.”
“Lawrence Thomas had a great game and in the end he helped us maybe achieve something.”
Adelaide now has a week to rest before kicking off its finals campaign at Coopers Stadium.
“I think it’s a benefit. At this time of the year there’s a lot of sore bodies. It gives us that time, whoever is sore, to rest.”
“It’s just about managing the boys and managing their loads and we’ll be ready the week after for sure.”comments
