Aston Villa utility and Socceroo, Chris Herd, has completed a move to Bolton Wanderers on a one-month loan deal.
The versatile 25-year-old, who can play in defence and midfield, goes straight into Bolton's squad for Wednesday's third round League Cup tie at Chelsea.
Herd has made 42 appearances for Villa since joining the club in 2005.
However, his first-team opportunities at Villa Park have been somewhat limited and he will look to gain valuable playing time at the Macron Stadium ahead of Australia's Asian Cup campaign.
UK reports suggest both clubs could extend the deal until Christmas, giving the newly-capped Socceroo an ideal platform for the January tournament.
Herd made his Socceroo debut in Australia's 2-0 loss to Belgium and followed up with a solid display at right back in the green and gold's 3-2 victory over Saudi Arabia.
The Trotters move marks the latest temporary switch for the player, who has also enjoyed loan spells at Port Vale, Wycombe Wanderers and Lincoln City.
His arrival is Bolton's third signing in the space of a week after manager Dougie Freedman also drafted in goalkeeper Paddy Kenny and midfielder Max Clayton.comments
