Herd out, Wilko in for Roos

Aston Villa's Aussie Chris Herd will miss another chance to make his senior debut in the green and gold after again withdrawing from a Socceroos camp, this time for 'personal reasons'.

Herd had been included in the squad to face Ecuador this week but today it was confirmed he had been replaced by former Central Coast Mariners skipper Alex Wilkinson.
Perth-born Herd, 24, has been withdrawn from the Socceroos squad after Aston Villa confirmed today that the 24-year-old would be unavailable for selection until further notice due to personal reasons. He also missed Villa's 4-1 thrashing of Norwich City overnight.
It's the latest in a series of withdrawals for Herd who has been hit by badly-timed injuries on the eve of camp to deny him a national team spot. Although having played for the Young Socceroos, Herd is still also eligible to play for Scotland but it is understood that is not related to his withdrawal.
“We have been made aware that Chris will be unavailable for selection at club level until further notice as he works through some personal issues and we will respect that and have replaced him in the squad for the Ecuador game,” said Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou today.
“That presents another opportunity for Alex Wilkinson to come into the camp. He did well in the camp in Sydney last November when we played Costa Rica and he has a chance to put his best foot forward, like everyone else, in relation to World Cup selection.”
The 29-year-old Jeonbuk Motors defender will arrive in London later today.
