Wellington Phoenix have reportedly signed former Ajax attacking midfielder Jeffrey Sarpong for the upcoming A-League season.
The 27-year-old former Netherlands youth international is expected to be unveiled by the club early this week.
Phoenix have been keen to boost their attack after losing Socceroo Nathan Burns one year into his two-year deal.
Burns, who chipped in with 13 goals last season – joint second highest in the Golden Boot race – has since signed with J.League outfit FC Tokyo.
Sarpong joined the famed Ajax Academy when he was just seven-years-old and made his Eredivisie debut in 2006.
He notched up 20 appearances for the Dutch giants, and 15 on loan to NEC, before joining La Liga outfit Real Sociedad in 2010.
Loan spells with NAC Breda and Hercules followed, then in 2013 he re-joined NAC Breda where he made 58 appearances for four goals.
He was released at the end of last season and unsuccessfully trialled with Championship club Blackburn Rovers.
In 2009 he switched his national allegiance to Ghana - the birthplace of his parents.
