Player Ratings: Western Sydney Wanderers v Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar jumped into finals contention while the winless Western Sydney Wanderers continue to prop up the ladder after a 1-0 loss at Pirtek. James Hetherington rates the performances in Wednesday night's Grand Final rematch.

Western Sydney Wanderers

Labinot Haliti - 6.5 Provided Western Sydney with their best chance thanks to a great header on goal, but spoiled a pass from Rukavytsya in the 89th.

Mark Bridge - 5.5 Apart from a few occasions of brilliant link up play, Bridge was more or less anonymous.

Vitor Saba - 7 Was one of the few sparks the Wanderers had, providing several excellent crosses into the 18-yard box.

Romeo Castelen - 7.5 Ignoring a few bad tackles, Castelen was exceptional combining with nearly every one of his teammates and hammering in shots, all while tracking back and defending.

Mateo Poljak - 5 Struggled to find the killer pass into the box and had a few ambitious shots that flew high. Booked in the 86th for a clumsy tackle.

Kearyn Baccus - 6 While not necessarily that influential, Baccus did the dirty work completing four tackles and winning 70% of his duels.

Seyi Adeleke - 5.5 Quite unlucky, Adeleke made a goal-saving tackle before conceding a penalty immediately after. Was relatively solid for the remainder of the game.

Nikolai Topor-Stanley - 6.5 Was his usual reliable self. Made a good effort going forward while maintaining his positional awareness to track back.

Matthew Spiranovic - 6.5 Just as reliable as his centre-back partner, Spiranovic’s positioning was sublime and prevented an Henrique goal with a risky slide tackle in the box.

Shannon Cole - 4.5 Completely over-run by Henrique in the first half and fluffed two volley chances in a row. Collected a yellow card in the 49th minute.

Ante Covic - 6 Nothing he could have done about the penalty and was alert for deep-lofted through balls.

Nikita Rukavytsya - 7.5 Delivered the same spark as Castelen in just one third of the time, Rukavytsya had four golden chances in the last ten minutes alone and was unlucky not to score.

Brendan Hamill - N/A A few decent runs, but not enough time to make an impact.

Iacopo La Rocca - N/A No influence.

Brisbane Roar

Henrique - 7 Converted the penalty and was a menace down the left wing. Went missing in the second half.

Mensur Kurtishi - 5.5 Was involved in some great link up play with Henrique but apart from that didn’t show much impact.

Brandon Borrello - 6.5 Borrello’s running down the right wing gave the Wanderer defenders a constant headache with great acceleration.

Matt McKay - 6 Constantly put his body on the line and tracked back.

Luke Brattan - 6 A mixed bag as he provided a terrific cross into the box for Henrique in the 42nd minute but was booked early in the second half for a poor challenge.

Dimitri Petratos - 6.5 Consistently got forward and pressured defenders but never managed to get one-on-one with the keeper.

Corey Brown - 6.5 Did his best to keep Saba at bay and was particularly strong in the air.

Jade North - 6 Provided a crucial interception in the 66th but apart from that had little to do.

Matt Smith - 5.5 Struggled with his one-on-one duels and committed three fouls, the clean sheet here saved him.

Daniel Bowles - 6.5 Was ever-present in his own half and was on the goal line to prevent Castelen’s equaliser.

Jamie Young 6.5 Didn’t have a lot to do but remained alert and made some great saves to prevent the draw.

Jean Carlos Solorzano - 7 Injected the Roar with a creative spark and had a great strike denied by the post in the 86th minute.

Kofi Danning - N/A No influence.
