Socceroos to face Macedonia

Australia will face Macedonia in an international friendly in Skopje on March 30, Football Federation Australia has confirmed.

Just five days after taking on world champions Germany, the Socceroos will do battle with Macedonia at the Philip II Arena in the country's capital.

It will be just the second meeting between the nations, with the previous resulting in a 1-0 Socceroos victory in Skopje in 1997.

Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou said it was an encounter he was looking forward to.

“We’re very pleased to secure a second match in Europe during the upcoming FIFA window,” he said in a statement.

“Two matches in five days against European opposition gives us a good opportunity to build on the platform we set in winning the Asian Cup.

“They are currently in the middle of qualifying for Euro 2016 so that gives us good opposition as we prepare for our next qualification campaign, which starts in June.

“It also gives us another opportunity to expose players to international football as we look towards the start of the 2018 World Cup cycle."
