Former Adelaide United midfielder Steven Lustica says there won’t be extra motivation for him when his Brisbane Roar side take on the Reds in the A-League elimination final.
Lustica spent part of the 2013-2014 season with the Reds, but left abruptly in February last year after signing a deal with Brisbane.
Both teams will clash at Adelaide Oval on Friday.
“I have a great affiliation with Adelaide and I have made a lot of friends there,” Lustica told FourFourTwo.
“There will be no extra motivation for this game as I approach every game the same like it’s a final anyway. I look forward to playing against Adelaide as they are a good footballing side.
“I have good memories playing Adelaide in the finals as we defeated them in 2013.”
The Roar defeated Adelaide 3-2 on April 11 at Coopers Stadium and won two of the three encounters between the clubs this season.
“There are no teams in the six that I would have preferred to play,” Lustica admitted.
“They’re all good teams and if we play to our potential we will be hard to beat.”
Several Reds players have voiced their displeasure at the elimination final being moved to Adelaide Oval away from Coopers Stadium, the club’s traditional ground.
Lustica believes this may be a slight advantage for Brisbane.
“I will enjoy playing at Adelaide Oval, it’s a fantastic venue,” he said.
“It’s probably a bit of a leveller as Adelaide don’t play there often.”
Lustica made 15 appearances for the Reds last season. The 24-year old has been in great form for the Roar this campaign, scoring five goals and getting one assist in 23 matches.
Lustica helped lead an inexperienced Brisbane XI defeat the Newcastle Jets 2-1 last Friday.
“I have been very happy with my form and getting on the scoresheet regularly has also been good,” he said.
“The team performed fantastically well against the Jets, especially the young players who have been excellent. Brisbane certainly has a bright future.”comments
