England World Cup 2026 squad is beginning to take shape.

With the World Cup just around the corner, England are the first European nation to have qualified for Canada, the United States and Mexico – and after initial experimentation, manager Thomas Tuchel has settled on a consistent core of players.

A-listers Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden were both left out of the squad in October, with the former still recovering from injury, but it would be a massive shock if the pair weren't on the plane across the Atlantic next summer.

The likes of Noni Madueke and Tino Livramento have both been regulars in the Tuchel era thus far, but with the pair of them currently on the treatment table, the door has opened for alternatives – while Myles Lewis-Skelly is currently out of favour at Arsenal, and Tuchel has admitted that the teenager needs to be playing regularly to get into his selection next summer.

In terms of other big names who may be sweating over their place, Trent Alexander-Arnold was dropped in September and with the Real Madrid right-back only just recovering from injury now, he may be concerned that his competition in that position is too strong for him to make a case to Tuchel at this late stage

Angel Gomes hasn't been picked since Lee Carsley stepped down, Levi Colwill is recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, while Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney face surprise competition in attack from Danny Welbeck. Given that only a few stars look guaranteed for the squad, there will certainly be several shocks when Tuchel names his final selection next summer.

The former Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, PSG, Chelsea and Bayern Munich coach is trying his hand at international football for the first time with a reputation for burning briefly and brightly at the highest level of the club game.

Tuchel's latest squad continues a general preference for trusted players over in-form options.

His decision to overlook Adam Wharton and Jacob Murphy and a heavy Chelsea presence in his squad have drawn particular comment from England fans, as have the continued selection of 34 year olds Jordan Henderson and Kyle Walker.

Harry Kane

The England skipper finally got his hands on the first trophy of his career last season, helping Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title with a superb 26 goals and 10 assists in 31 league appearances.

Kane, who is ranked at no.1 in FourFourTwo's list of the best strikers in the world right now, has a massive part to play for England as he looks to tick off another major career milestone at next year's World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA.

With 105 caps and 71 goals to his name already for the Three Lions, and will be hoping to boost both tallies as Tuchel's side aim for their first World Cup triumph since 1966.
