Tony Pulis will be looking for his first win as Sheffield Wednesday manager when his new side take on Swansea on Wednesday.
Pulis was installed in the Hillsborough hot seat last week following Garry Monk’s dismissal. The former Stoke and West Brom boss oversaw the 1-0 defeat by Preston at the weekend, a result which leaves Wednesday second-bottom of the Championship table after 12 games. The Owls have in effect earned 12 points so far, but a six-point deduction leaves them inside the bottom three heading into Wednesday’s clash.
Pulis will no doubt make Wednesday harder to beat as he gradually gets his ideas across. That might take longer than usual this term, though, with the games coming even thicker and faster in a condensed campaign. The hectic schedule reduces the amount of time managers have to work with their players on the training pitch, and Swansea will hope to take advantage of that here.
Steve Cooper’s side head into this game in fine form, having gone unbeaten in their last three matches and losing just one of their last seven. Swansea qualified for the play-offs in 2019/20 and will be targeting another top-six finish this time around, and Cooper will be pleased with the way his players have conducted themselves thus far. Swansea have been particularly impressive defensively, conceding just seven goals to date - a tally bettered by only Middlesbrough.
Wednesday will have to make do without the suspended duo of Josh Windass and Kadeem Harris, while Jack Marriott, Dominic Iorfa, Cheyenne Dunkley and Aden Flint are all missing through injury. Pulis is likely to stick with the 4-5-1 formation he employed against Preston at the weekend.
Swansea remain without Morgan Gibbs-White, but Cooper has no fresh injury concerns to deal with as his side seek their first away win in five games.
