West Brom and Sheffield United are both still looking for their first wins of the Premier League season.
Slaven Bilic’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat by Manchester United last time out, leaving them stuck on three points from their first nine games following promotion from the Championship. Bilic was understandably unhappy at the reversal of a decision to award his team a penalty at Old Trafford, but he will be under no illusions as to the difficulty of the task facing him this term. The Baggies have now shipped 18 goals in the Premier League - the joint-worst record in the division - and have found the back of the net just once in their last six games.
Sheffield United are one of only two teams below West Brom in the table heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures. The Blades were the Premier League’s surprise package last season, flirting with the European spots for much of the campaign and ultimately securing an impressive ninth-place finish. However, Chris Wilder’s side have taken just one point from the first 27 on offer in 2020/21, with last Sunday’s 1-0 loss to West Ham leaving them rooted to the foot of the table.
Scoring goals has been a particular problem for the Blades thus far. United were not the most prolific team in the league last season, but four goals in nine games is a poor return and they will struggle to climb out of the bottom three without a significant improvement in attack.
West Brom remain without the injured duo Sam Field and Hal Robson-Kanu, while Kieran Gibbs and Jake Livermore look set to miss out after testing positive for COVID-19.
Jack O’Connell is a long-term absentee for Sheffield United, and Wilder will also have to make do without Lys Mousset and Enda Stevens.
