Who is the referee for England vs France at World Cup 2022?
Brazilian official Wiltypon Sampaio is the man in the middle for England vs France in the quarter-finals of World Cup 2022
England vs France will have Wilton Sampaio from Brazil officiating at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor on Saturday evening.
The World Cup 2022 referee took charge of Saudi Arabia vs Poland and Netherlands vs Senegal in the group stage, as well as Netherlands vs the United States in the last-16.
Neutrals watching England vs France may hope for some of the drama experienced in Friday night's quarter-final between Argentina and the Netherlands – which saw the likes of Sergio Aguero slamming the refereeing – but Sampaio will be hoping for a more gentle affair.
From his three World Cup fixtures so far, however, he has dished out 10 yellow cards, meaning players may want to be on their best behaviour.
But has he never refereed a game involving either England or France so far, meaning neither sides' supporters can dredge up old grudges against the Brazilian.
Sampaio will be joined by two Brazilian assistant referees running the line, with a fourth official from the United Arab Emirates.
