Adelaide United were held to a 1-1 draw by Perth Glory in a hard fought battle behind closed doors at Coopers Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
Sergio Cirio opened the scoring on 32 minutes for the Reds, driving his strike to the right of Glory goalkeeper Danny Vukovic.
But the lead was short-lived.
Michael Thwaite found the equaliser just six minutes later with a header over Adelaide custodian Eugene Galekovic.
The match gave the Reds coach Josep Gombau an opportunity to test some young talent, with Bruce Kamau starting on the right wing and Scott Nagel on the left providing a constant threat going forward.
There were also positive signs for new signing Pablo Sanchez who was involved in much of the Reds’ attacking play and narrowly missed two opportunities score.
Adelaide carried the momentum into the second-half but Glory proved a hard nut to crack and came close to taking the lead twice after some enterprising play by Mitch Nichols.
Glory’s road trip continues on Sunday when Nichols will line up against his former club Melbourne Victory for the first time since his mid-season move to Japan last year.
The AAMI Park friendly, which kicks off at 2pm, will be closed to the public but streamed live on MelbourneVictory.com.au.comments
