Young Socceroo Callum Elder has signed a six-month loan deal to join Championship club Brentford from Leicester City.
The 21-year-old full-back impressed on loan at Peterborough in England’s third tier last term before a foot injury interrupted his season.
Peterborough was keen to bring Elder back in 2016-17, but Leicester has preferred for the Sydney-born talent to play in England’s second tier.
Posh director of football Barry Fry confirmed the news, although Brentford is yet to make the signing official.
“We tried hard for Callum and he indicated he wanted to come back and play for us,” Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph.
“But he has now signed a new contract at Leicester and it has been decided he will play in the Championship this season. I understand he will sign for Brentford.”
Elder played with Mansfield Town in England’s fourth tier in 2014-15, before his move to Posh in the third tier followed by his latest switch to the Championship.
Brentford finished ninth in the Championship last term and recently signed Aussie keeper Dominic Kurasik.comments
