Franjic reveals A-League agreement

Socceroos full-back Ivan Franjic has revealed he agreed terms with an A-League club during the January transfer window.

However, the 27-year-old’s Russian side Torpedo Moscow declined any potential loan move and insisted he return to the club following his performances during the 2015 Asian Cup.

Franjic, who will miss the next month with a hip injury aggravated in the Asian Cup final, had previously flagged his interest in a loan move back to Australia after struggling for game time in Moscow following his switch in August.

Speaking to Fox Sports News at his former club St Albans Saints in Melbourne, Franjic revealed he came close to signing a deal with an A-League club.

“I did come to an agreement with an A-League club,” the former Brisbane Roar man said.

“I won’t say who. I was speaking to a few clubs and they were wonderful.

“But after the three group stage games my club wanted me back.

“They watched the games and said 'you’re coming back'.”

“It’s part and parcel of the game.”

Franjic’s former club Brisbane signed right-back Jerome Polenz during the transfer window.

Victory and City from Franjic’s hometown Melbourne were understood to both be keen on upgrading their right-back options.

Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC were also busy during January in the transfer market.
