Australia’s Futsalroos are one win away from lifting the AFF Futsal Championship trophy after a pulsating 4-3 extra-time win over Vietnam on Thursday night.
Daniel Fogarty blasted home the winner with just two minutes to spare at the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam, Malaysia.
The result sets up a mouth-watering encounter on Saturday night when the Aussies get their chance to turn the tables on Thailand who defeated them in the final last year.
“It will be a good rematch,” Australian coach Robert Varela told fotballaustralia.com.au
“I know that Thailand have brought a younger squad but that does not mean that they are not any good.
“They are in the final, so we have to prepare well.”
The Futsalroos showed enormous character when they found themselves on the back foot just seven minutes into the match against Vietnam.
Phung Trong Luan gave his side the early lead, firing up the Aussies who equalised just before the break when Jarrod Basger turned in Gregory Giovenali’s cross.
A pulsating second-half started with Fogarty putting the Aussies back in front only for Trong Luan to level the scores just four minutes later.
Before the Vietnam players could enjoy the moment, Jordan Guerreiro sped down the right and released to Gionevali to put the Aussies ahead again.
That looked like being enough until the final minute when Vietnam captain Nguyen BaoQuan smashed home the goal to send the game into extra-time.
Fogarty scored his second to set up an Australia v Thailand showdown for the second straight year.comments
