Victory swoop for Berisha

Melbourne Victory have swooped to snap up Brisbane Roar striker Besart Berisha on a two year marquee deal starting next season, the club confirmed today.

Berisha, who has scored a remarkable 41 goals in his 65 appearances for Brisbane Roar, will head to AAMI Park once his current contract with the league-leaders expires.
The Albanian joined Brisbane ahead of its 2011/12 Hyundai A-League campaign, scoring 21 goals in his debut year and playing a pivotal role in Brisbane’s Championship winning season.
The 28-year-old will fill the Club’s International Marquee spot for the next two seasons.
Melbourne Victory Coach Kevin Muscat said having a striker of Berisha’s quality join the club was an exciting prospect for members, players and the coaching staff alike.
“Besart has been performing at the highest level week-in, week-out for Brisbane and has caused plenty of headaches for opposition defenders and coaches, including myself,” Muscat said.
“He’s a proven goal-scorer and a player that we can’t wait to welcome to Melbourne Victory.
“It’s certainly well documented how competitive Besart is, and that is something every A-League fan surely admires about him.”
Berisha will complete the current season with Brisbane Roar before beginning pre-season training with his new Victory teammates in July.

Muscat and Berisha, ahhh that's so nice.... a coming together of soul mates. It will be hilarious next season hearing Muscat defend his new star's "naughty" behaviour. Although Berisiha might punch Muscat out before he turns his attention to the opposition!

got no problem with it roar fans remember we scored plenty of goals with out him

We had him for his prime at a good price. Right time to offload at 28. Roar are proactive victory Sydney reactive ....

We have such a great record of taking Brisbane strikers.
Like Jean Carlos Solórzano, he was just great!

Finally a player who can actually have a shot at goal from anywhere unlike the pissfarting crew currently who like to pass to each other countless times in front of goal.

Exactly why the salary cap is shite. What is the point in being owned by billionaires when they can't open the purse strings to keep players. How many other roar players will we loose this year? Thank you Bes but I'd rather he went straight away or that the Victory scum didn't tempt him mid season. You can buy our players but you cannot buy our success hope we see you in the GF and cream you.

a message to the victory supporters what happens to Archie Thompson now? will he be discarded and who will be the number one striker at the victory?

@Bill Dunn Not sure about Archie after next season.....but Besart is down as international marquee and Archie as Australian Marquee. So in essence this will mean Pablo Contreras is gone after this current season.

As a side note. I had to recreate a new account for the new website. Same username too, when I tried to reset password I got "no account registered to this email address". All good now, recreated new account and back up and running. Still getting used to the new site...a lot less comments on front articles since the change. Maybe a few others are having the same problem as I did (lost account).

Such is life, big loss for us definitely a great striker that just suits or style and his hunger for goals is unmatched in our squad.

I would have been gutted if he had been developed by us, from our youth team and so on, I think there needs to be a rule relaxation only for the players the cubs develop rewarding the cubs for local player development.

Dead here ...
