Brentford and Bournemouth will be looking to boost their Championship promotion pushes when they lock horns in west London on Wednesday.
Both teams are level on 38 points going into this midweek clash, with Bournemouth ahead of their upcoming opponents on goal difference alone. Jason Tindall’s men did not play on Boxing Day after their meeting with Millwall was postponed, meaning they have almost two weeks off in the run-up to this game. The Cherries are unbeaten in their last five matches and have not even conceded a goal in that time, so Brentford will find them a tough nut to crack. They are also the division’s joint-highest goalscorers alongside Blackburn.
Thomas Frank’s side moved level on points with Bournemouth courtesy of a 3-2 triumph over Cardiff last time out. After a shaky start to the season, the Bees have hit their stride and will have designs on a top-two finish after just missing out in 2019/20. Brentford head into this match on a 14-game unbeaten run, having avoided defeat since a 3-2 loss to Stoke towards the end of October. Only Blackburn and Bournemouth have scored more goals in the Championship than Brentford this season.
Bournemouth will have to make do without Jack Stacey, who is out until the middle of next month with a knee injury. Tindall has no fresh injury concerns to contend with and Chris Mepham and Arnaut Danjuma will hope to start after returning to full fitness, but Josh King will probably not be involved as he seeks a January exit.
Brentford will be unable to call upon the services of Mads Roerslev Rasmussen and Shandon Baptiste, although both players are closing in on a return to action. Josh Dasilva was rested against Cardiff but is in line to return to the starting XI here, with Emiliano Marcondes the man most likely to make way.
