Andrea Pirlo is under pressure to deliver his first piece of silverware as Juventus coach in Wednesday’s Italian Super Cup final against Napoli, after their chances of defending the Serie A title took a big dent on Sunday.
The two Italian giants go head-to-head at Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium on Wednesday for the trophy contested annually by the league and cup winners.
Juve put in a shocking display in a 2-0 defeat away to Inter Milan last time out, leaving them in fifth place and seven points behind their title rivals.
With the Turin club’s nine-year stranglehold of the league title at serious risk, clinching a trophy at the Mapei Stadium would at least give the Old Lady a reason to be cheerful.
However, they are up against a Napoli side that was remarkably clinical in a 6-0 hammering of Fiorentina on the weekend.
Gennaro Gattuso’s side, who clinched the Coppa Italia last season by beating Juve on penalties in the final, have won three consecutive games in all competitions.
