Twente fan sent to prison for hitting policeman

MARSEILLE, France - A Twente Enschede fan was sentenced to 12 months in prison, six suspended, after injuring a police officer before the Dutch club's UEFA Cup game in Marseille this week, judicial sources said on Saturday.

A Marseille court also banned the 34-year-old fan from entering French territory for two years.

The fan, who was under the influence of alcohol, admitted to hitting the police officer on the head with a bottle.

Twente beat Olympique Marseille 1-0 in the last-32, first leg match at the Velodrome on Thursday.
