UEFA ‘looking into’ claims local officials opened gates to fill Baku stadium

European football’s governing body UEFA is investigating claims local officials opened the turnstiles at Baku’s Olympic Stadium during the Europa League Final on Wednesday because of embarrassing pictures of empty seats.

Chelsea beat Arsenal 4-1 on the night but the game will be remembered for the controversies surrounding its staging in the Azerbaijan capital, the subdued atmosphere in the ground and the wide camera angles used because of the stadium’s running track.
