Happy to be home was the message from a relaxed-looking Alex Brosque who linked up with his Sydney FC teammates for preseason training this week.
After several years abroad the Sky Blues' Australian marquee is keen to get the harbour-siders back firing at the top of next season’s league ladder.
“Coming back to Macquarie and seeing all the boys again it’s very special for me and I’m happy to be home,” Brosque told the club’s website.
“Ever since I left it was a matter of timing of when exactly it was the right time to come back and there was never a doubt in my mind that if there was the option to come back to Sydney then I’d do exactly that.
“I’ve been watching every year since I left and hopefully this year it’s a bit of a new era for the club with a new coach and new signings. Hopefully we can really kick on this season and go back to where the club should be and that’s at the top of the table.”
The former Socceroo is impressed with the squad coach Graham Arnold is pulling together for the 2014/15 season.
“Bernie (Ibini) is a great player, he’s a very good dribbler and finisher and (Shane) Smeltz is a very good goal scorer,” Brosque said. “Wherever that puts me in Arnie’s plans on the pitch, if I can sort of help complement these guys, and the team around us, hopefully that means we’ll have a good season.”
