Aussies Abroad weekend wrap

Goals galore for our overseas Aussies this week, with none more impressive than Ryan McGowan, whose 95th minute header won the Chinese FA Cup Final for Shandong Luneng. Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak also popped up with a goal, scoring a stunning free kick as Crystal Palace heaped more misery on Liverpool in the EPL, winning 3-1.

Elsewhere, Dario Vidosic continued his return to form with a goal in Switzerland, Dylan Macallister got on the scoresheet in Hong Kong as did Brett Holman in the UAE League Cup, and Eli Babalj hit a hat trick for AZ Alkmaar’s reserve side in the Netherlands.

Starting in the English Premier League, Mile Jedinak played a full match and scored the final goal of the game as Crystal Palace won 3-1 at home to Liverpool, for whom Brad Jones was an unused substitute and Brad Smith was not in the squad. Mark Schwarzer was not in the squad as Chelsea won 2-0 at home over West Bromwich Albion, for whom Jason Davidson was also not in the squad. Curtis Good was missing due to injury as Newcastle United won 1-0 at home to Queens Park Rangers.

In the Championship in England, Adam Federici played a full match while Ryan Edwards was not in the squad as Reading lost 2-1 away to Cardiff City. Scott McDonald played a full match for Millwall in their goalless draw with Charlton Athletic. Cameron Burgess was not in the squad while Adam Taggart was missing due to injury as Fulham were beaten 2-1 by Brentford. Rhys Williams was missing due to injury as Middlesbrough drew 1-1 away to Wigan Athletic.

In the English League One, James Meredith played a full match for Bradford City as they drew 1-1 at home to Gillingham. Neil Kilkenny played a full match while Bailey Wright was missing due to injury as Preston North End won 1-0 away to Bristol City. In the English Conference Premier, Aaron Downes played a full match for Torquay United while Alex Baird was not in the squad for Gateshead as the sides played out a 2-2 draw. Mitchell Austin played a full match for Southport as they won 3-2 away to Nuneaton Town. Alex Grant came on in the 53rd minute as Macclesfield Town won 2-0 at home to Alfreton Town. In the Bayernliga Sud in Germany, Jonathan Faerber was not in the squad for TSV 1860 Rosenheim as they won 2-1 away to BCF Wolfratshausen.

In the Eredivisie in the Netherlands, Trent Sainsbury played a full match as PEC Zwolle lost 2-1 at home to FC Twente. Tommy Oar also played a full match while Michael Zullo was missing due to injury as FC Utrecht lost 3-1 at home to SC Cambuur. In the United Arab Emirates League Cup, Brett Holman played a full match and scored the opening goal as Al Nasr went on to win 2-0 at home to Al Shabab.

In the FA Cup Final in the Maldives, Dane Milovanovic played until the 48th minute as New Radiant SC lost 4-3 on penalties to Maziya S&RC after the final finished goalless after extra time.

In the Hong Kong Premier League, Jerrad Tyson played a full match and kept a clean sheet for Sun Pegasus while Joey Gibbs played until the 69th minute and Aaron Evans was an unused substitute for Tai Po FC as the sides played out a 0-0 draw. Dylan Macallister played until the 78th minute and scored his side’s second goal as Eastern Salon won 3-0 away to Yuen Long. In the first leg of the Eastern Conference Finals in Major League Soccer in the United States, Tim Cahill came on in the 76th minute as New York Red Bulls lost 2-1 at home to New England Revolution.

In the Campeonato Serie A – Segunda Etapa in Ecuador, Richard Porta came on in the 63rd minute as table-topping Independiente del Valle won 1-0 at home to Mushuc Runa.

In the Segunda Division in Uruguay, Blake Ricciuto played a full match as Canadian SC won 3-2 away to Deportivo Maldonado.

In the final of the Oceania Football Confederation President’s Cup, Panagiotis Nikas and Adrian Ucchino played full matches as Amicale FC lost 2-1 to Auckland City. In matches played earlier in the week, Nikas again played a full match, scoring the winning goal, while Ucchino also played a full match as Amicale came back to win 2-1 over Busaiteen.
