Brent Griffiths makes Malaysian move
Griffiths was released by the Mariners at the end of the 2014/2015 season and has since been without a club.
The 25-year old, who grew up in Western Australia, was a junior with Blackburn Rovers.
The centre-back made his A-League debut for Perth Glory in 2010 and has also had stints with Wellington Phoenix and National Premier League Victorian club Heidelberg United.
His older brother is Roda JC Kerkrade midfielder Rostyn Griffiths.
Penang FA will compete in the Malaysian Super League again in 2016 after securing promotion from the second division.
Griffiths told FourFourTwo he was excited about his overseas adventure.
“I was attracted to the growing league of Malaysia and felt I wanted to try and experience something new culturally,” he said.
“Having players like John McKain, Robbie Cornthwaite and Ryan Griffiths currently paving the way for Australian players made it an easy decision too.
“FA Penang was a no brainer for me also as they're coming back into the Super League this season and they're a club with a rich footballing history which want to challenge for everything.”
