Brosque farewells Al Ain a winner

Reported Sydney FC target Alex Brosque has called time on his spell at Al Ain and gone out in style by helping the club lift the UAE Emirates Cup.

Brosque played 12 minutes off the bench in Al Ain’s 1-0 triumph over Al Ahli in Sunday’s final.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Brosque confirmed he would be leaving the 2012-13 UAE league champions who haven’t offered him a new deal.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here, my two seasons," Brosque said.

"It’s sad to have to part ways but it’s football so tonight was a special way to finish."

The 30-year-old has been linked with a marquee move back to Sydney FC where he played a key part in their 2009-10 A-League double success.

Graham Arnold’s Sky Blues have already added Bernie Ibini and Shane Smeltz to their attack this off-season, while Alessandro Del Piero has departed.

Brosque left the Sky Blues in 2010 for a lucrative deal in Japan with Shimizu S-Pulse before switching to Al Ain in September 2012.

The 21-times Socceroos striker played a key part in Al Ain’s title success in his maiden season, netting 10 times, but has had less impact this term.
