Carle fired up to prove critics wrong

Former Sydney FC marquee Nicky Carle says he cannot wait to prove a few people wrong after enduring “one of the low points of his career” in 2013-14.

Carle did not play once after being banished from first team training by coach Frank Farina in February for disobeying tactical orders in a match.

He battled an adductor strain in the final few weeks of the season but was overlooked when fit.

The situation created speculation Carle would leave the club, despite having one year to run on his contract.

Speaking publicly for the first time since he was frozen out at the Sky Blues, Carle said he was very excited about the new season under newly appointed coach Graham Arnold.

“I haven’t had an interview about the past year, I’ve not spoken to anyone about it and I’d prefer to keep it that way, but what I’ll say is it’s important how you handle the tough times in your career,” Carle told FourFourTwo.

“The back-end of last year was definitely was one of the low points of my career.

“I’m definitely looking forward to the fresh start and new challenge of working under Arnie. I think he’s a great appointment.”

Carle only managed 17 appearances and one goal for the Sky Blues in 2013-14, having spent the previous campaign on loan with UAE outfit Bani Yas.

The 32-year-old insisted he was far from finished with Sydney and determined to prove that to the critics.

“I’ve got the fire in the belly to prove a few people wrong,” Carle said.

“I’m definitely going to give it everything. I’ve got to prove I’ve got some years left in me.”

Carle will make a player appearance at the Australia-Chile televised match at the Hyundai Fan Parkat The Star in Sydney on Saturday June 14 (Australia time), answering questions, taking photos and signing autographs.
