Demetriou makes Wealdstone move

Aussie striker James Demetriou has moved to National League South club Wealdstone FC on loan from Swansea City for the rest of the season.

Demetriou joined Swansea from Nottingham Forest in August 2014.

The centre forward, who was a Sydney Olympic junior, was linked to a move to the A-League late last year.

Demetriou stayed in the UK but has been unable to so far crack Swansea’s Premier League senior squad.

The 20-year old, who has represented Cyprus at Under-21 level, is set to gain first-team experience with Wealdstone.

“Excited to get some games at @wealdstonefc on loan until the end of the season. First game tonight at home!” Demetriou tweeted.

The Stones are based in Ruislip, in Middlesex, and play in English football’s sixth tier.

Demetriou was on the bench for Wealdstone’s match against Hayes & Yeading United on Monday evening.

The striker came off the bench in the 60th minute as the Stones defeated Hayes & Yeading 3-0.
