Alex Gersbach has escaped a hefty sanction for this reckless challenge on Adelaide United midfielder, James Jeggo, in Sydney FC's 2-1 loss to the Reds at Coopers Stadium on Friday.
A moment of madness from the Sydney FC young gun earned a straight red on 28 minutes, forcing the Sky Blues to play most of the match with 10-men.
The independent Match Review Panel announced on Monday that Gersbach, 18, would serve the minimum one match ban for the infringement.
Tempers threatened to boil over when Gersbach caught the shin of Jeggo and Reds players converged on the Sydney teenager.
The match was decided by a last-gasp penalty which delivered the struggling Reds their second straight win of the season.
Sydney sit 5th on the ladder and travel to New Zealand to take on 6th placed Wellington Phoenix on Saturday.
