Brisbane Roar striker Jamie Maclaren scored an incredible eight goals as the club recorded a 10-0 victory over a Gold Coast All Stars team in Southport on Sunday.
Maclaren, who joined the Roar from Perth Glory this off-season, had a hat-trick inside 21 minutes before adding a fourth before half-time.
The forward added another four goals in the second 45, with Brandon Borello and Abraham Yango scoring the other two for the Roar.
Maclaren will be going away with the Olyroos next week along with Roar teammates Borrello and James Donachie.
“It’s good to go away with confidence and having scored my first goals for the club,” Maclaren said.
The victory was John Aloisi’s first in four games since he joined the Roar in June, although he quickly put the result into perspective.
“Full credit to the Gold Coast All-Stars, they made it into a good game by trying to press us, trying to do the right things,” Aloisi said.
“I was pleased with our attitude and pleased with the things I saw.
“It is always nice to score goals and give the boys a bit of confidence because within our structures, that is where we were getting the goals, so it was pretty good.”
