Australia’s Joeys are through to the quarter-finals of the AFC U-16 Championship with a 2-0 victory over Hong Kong on Monday.
Midfielder Charlie Robert Devereux opened the scoring on 27 minutes before striker Jamal Damien Reiners added another just four minutes from time.
The Joeys midfield was slick and composed but the final ball was often missing in what were wet and difficult conditions at Rajamangala Stadium, Bangkok.
Tony Vidmar’s side now sit on a maximum six points after they coasted to a 3-0 victory over China on the weekend.
Australia and Japan top Group B - the latter also defeating China 3-0 - and will face-off on Wednesday for group honours, with both already assured of a place in the final eight.
The top four teams in the championship will represent Asia at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.comments
