A-League move unlikely for Cahill

Socceroos superstar Tim Cahill admits the A-League is unlikely to be his next destination.

The 35-year-old has a year left on his contract at the New York Red Bulls, but he has been linked with a move away.

Cahill said he always considered a move to the A-League, but it may yet come even later in his career.

"There's always been thoughts (of playing in Australia)," he told Channel Nine.

"For me, I always do things with a vision so when you talk about Australia, I wouldn't come back here for a pay day, a little guest stint, because I don't play football for fun.

"Maybe in the future, but right now it looks like I'll be heading off somewhere else or possibly staying at the New York Red Bulls for a couple of years."

With the Asian Cup coming up in Australia, Cahill said it could be up to a month before a decision on his future was announced.

"I've got a year left on my deal (at the Red Bulls). Whether or not I go back is another thing," he said.

"There are a lot of opportunities for me. The next couple of weeks to a month I find out exactly what the future holds for Tim Cahill."
