Adelaide United's chances of luring Luca Toni to the A-League appear all but over after Hellas Verona president Maurizio Setti confirmed the Italian's contract renewal would be "a formality".
The Reds were linked with a move for Serie A's top goalscorer, although the club admitted signing the 38-year-old was a "long shot".
Former Italy international Toni takes on league champions Juventus on Sunday morning (AEST) as he looks to wrap up the golden boot.
And it appears he is set to extend his stay at Verona.
Club president Setti told Gazzetta TV that he felt Toni's future would be secured without hassle.
"The future of Toni? We wish him to win the top scorer. He has a 95 per cent chance of succeeding and I want to help him achieve this goal," he said.
"With him, the renewal will be a formality.
"It's a decision that is up to him, you know, but there is every reason to continue."comments
