Leckie stars in Bavarian derby

Socceroo Mathew Leckie shrugged off recent injury concerns to put in a star turn for FC Ingolstadt 04 in their 2-0 victory over Greuther Furth in the Bavarian derby on Sunday.

Leckie was instrumental in both goals, scoring the first (62') and setting up the second (81’), proving a constant menace for defenders during his 90 minutes on the park.

Earlier this month the 23-year-old, who was one Australia’s best at the World Cup, looked set for an indefinite spell on the sidelines with a persistent abdominal injury.

But the former Adelaide United star was back to his scintillating best on the weekend, converting a solo run before laying one on for midfielder Pascal Gross on the edge of the box.

The victory at Audi Sportpark lifts the Bundesliga 2. club up to fifth on the table.

Leckie’s match-winning performance will be welcome news for the Socceroos after he was named for next month's friendlies in the lead up to the Asian Cup.
