Milligan set for lucrative Middle East move

Melbourne Victory skipper Mark Milligan is on the verge of signing a lucrative deal with Abu Dhabi ourfit Bani Yas, after the club reportedly activated a $1 million release clause in the midfielder’s contract.

Milligan, who is expected to fly out to the UAE in the next couple of days, has long been a target of Bani Yas who tried to lure him to the UAE Arabian Gulf League in 2013 and again last year.

“We are still talking, still negotiating some things, but expect to have news tomorrow,” Mubarak bin Mahroum, the Bani Yas chairman told The National.

“We have been discussing for a long time, since one month ago. We are confident.”

The Socceroo is expected to join coach Luis Garcia’s four-player foreign quota on a two-year deal.

Last week the Socceroo led Victory to their third A-League championship title with a 3-0 win over Sydney FC and picked up the Joe Marston Medal for a Man of the Match performance.
