A CONTROVERSIAL penalty has condemned Sydney to their third straight loss as they fell 1-0 away to Perth Glory at nib Stadium tonight.
It was the worst possible start for the Sky Blues who found themselves a goal down inside 9 minutes when goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic bundled over Perth's Ryo Nagai in the box.
Replays showed the 22-year-old attacker was well offside when he chested down the ball but that was little consolation for the visitors when Steven McGarry slotted home the penalty.
Coming off two-straight losses, and keen to get their season back on track Frank Farina's men looked ripe for the sucker punch but carved out the better of the chances.
A lightning raid down the right just after the half-hour should have troubled Glory shot stopper Danny Vukovic but the visitors were let down by a poor Ali Abbas header that sailed over the crossbar.
Sydney, dominating the possession and opportunities, will probably how they walked away without a point.
Farina brought on Alessandro Del Piero just after the hour but the visitors were unable to find the equaliser.
The result means Perth go to second on the table with three games in the round to play and Sydney remain in 7th.
