Merida agent puzzled by Atletico
The 19-year-old former Barcelona prodigy continues to impress at the Emirates Stadium, scoring his first goal for the club in the recent League Cup success over Liverpool with a 25-yard screamer.
And as a result, the talented teenager has attracted interest from his homeland in the form of Atletico and Sevilla.
Gunners' boss Arsene Wenger attempted to cool talk of the youngster leaving North London, revealing that the player had agreed a new deal, in principle.
But Merida's representitive, Joseba Diaz, says he does not know what is stopping the Vicente Calderon side from making an approach.
“I do not know what Atletico are waiting for in bidding for a player who has half of Europe after him,” he said.
“It’s true that as a child he was sick about Atletico but everything has changed a bit. Now his heart and head are with Arsenal.
“There are much falsehoods in the world of football because the players do not decide what team they play for.
"The priority now is to negotiate with Arsenal and in the future we’ll see. The desire is to keep him at Arsenal and succeed.”
