Brisbane Roar accept ban for 'remorseful' McKay

Brisbane Roar will not challenge the two-game suspension slapped on a "remorseful" Matt McKay by the independent Match Review Panel.

The 31-year-old was sent off in the 72nd minute of the defending champions’ 2-1 opening round home loss to Adelaide United after a fiery outburst at referee Ben Williams.

The Socceroo utility was originally facing a one-game suspension, but the A-League's MRP took a dim view of his expletive-filled rant and added an extra game to his ban.

Roar had until Tuesday to appeal the sanction but posted a statement on the club website saying it accepted the MRP’s decision.

“Matt has shown incredible remorse about his actions on the weekend and he knows he has let the club, his teammates and our members and supporters down,” Managing Director Sean Dobson said.

“We have accepted the Match Review Panel’s decision and consider the matter finalised.”

McKay will miss Sunday’s away trip to Perth Glory and the home fixture against Sydney FC.
