While the Socceroos were celebrating their Asian Cup success, forgotten Australian full-back Luke Wilkshire suffered a hamstring injury recurrence and appears set for an extended stint on the sidelines.
Wilkshire had to be replaced after 18 minutes in Feyenoord’s 2-1 win over ADO Den Haag on Sunday.
Feyenoord boss Fred Rutten confirmed after Sunday’s game that he had re-injured the hamstring which kept him out for a month in November and early December.
The 33-year-old full-back hasn’t been involved with the Socceroos set-up since missing Ange Postecoglou’s final World Cup cut in June.
Wilkshire has been a regular at Dutch giants Feyenoord this season, when fit, since his free transfer move from Dinamo Moscow.
Despite playing regular football at a high level, Postecoglou has continued to overlook Wilkshire for Socceroos selection.comments
