Attacking livewire Golgol Mebrahtu has been granted an early release by Melbourne Heart as he searches for regular first-team football.
The 23-year-old striker's contract was set to expire at the end of the season but Heart have opted to terminate his contract, effective immediately.
Mebrahtu is reportedly set to link up with Tony Popovic at last season's grand finalists Western Sydney Wanderers.
The Sudanese-born forward made 12 appearances for lowly Heart this season but did not feature under John van 't Schip, who replaced John Aloisi in December last year.
"Golgol has been a good professional during his time with us so we wish him nothing but the best," said general manager, football operations John Didulica.
"Given he is moving on at season’s end, it was not worthwhile persisting with him ahead of other players who are here for the long term, which for us promises to be very exciting."
Mebrahtu joined Heart ahead of the 2012/13 season following the collapse of Gold Coast United.
He scored four goals in his debut campaign for Heart but failed to find the back of the net for the Melbourne-based outfit this season.2 comments
